Medic, child among dozens injured by Israeli fire in Gaza

A female medic was critically wounded from a gunshot to the back and a 10-year-old boy seriously injured, the ministry said.

Israeli troops fired live bullets and rubber-coated steel rounds, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

On the same day, Israeli troops opened fire on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank village of Ras Karkar, who were demonstrating against Israeli land seizures for Jewish settlements. Israeli troops responded to stone throwing with tear gas and rubber bullets, injuring at least a dozen people, Reuters reported.

Israeli authorities had no immediate comment.

Israeli forces have killed more than 171 Palestinians since the Great Return March border protests began on 30 March, while more than 17,500 have been injured. 

One Israeli soldier was killed by a Gaza sniper during this same period.

Egyptian and UN officials were hoping to finalise the details of a long-term truce between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip after the escalation in violence led to fears of a fourth war.

The UN has said a continuing blockade would make Gaza "unliveable" by 2020.
