Police in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday warned curious drivers against obstructing traffic by stopping at accident sites and talking photos.

If shared on social media without permission, such footage and images could result in a heavy fine, police said.

So far this year, 71 drivers have been fined due to related offences.

Authorities warned that those cause blocking roads while stopping to look at accident sites will be fined Dh1,000 ($272). Police hope that the penalty will deter curious passers-by from blocking the way of emergency services trying to reach accident victims.

Police also cautioned those untrained in first aid against assisting accident victims, as they could exacerbate a victim's injuries.
