Israeli forces shot a Palestinian woman in the northern West Bank on Thursday after she stabbed an Israeli soldier outside a settlement.

The unidentified woman, said to be in her twenties, is in a critical condition, Israeli medics said, while the soldier was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his upper body.

The attack took place at the entrance to the Mevo Dotan settlement south-west of Jenin, one of more than 190 illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Video of the incident emerged online, reportedly showing the young woman writhing in pain as Israeli settlers stand around her shouting "B*tch" and "Die, die. Suffer."

On May 18, a 23-year-old Palestinian was shot dead near Nablus by an Israeli settler. Days earlier, a Jordanian citizen was killed in Jerusalem after allegedly stabbing an Israeli officer.

At least 20 Palestinians have been killed so far in this year by Israeli military forces or settlers.

The latest incident comes just days before the 50th anniversary of the 1967 war which ended with Israel illegally occupying East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights.

A wave of unrest that broke out in October 2015 has claimed the lives of 266 Palestinians and 41 Israelis.
