A Jordanian was shot dead after he allegedly stabbed and wounded an Israeli officer in occupied East Jerusalem on Saturday.

Police identified the assailant as a 57-year-old Jordanian man who had been visiting Israel for the past three days.

The Israeli officer was taken to hospital with "moderate" injuries in the walled Old City, police spokeswoman Louba Samri said in a statement.
