The Egyptian navy's search and rescue unit has rescued 20 tourists and three crewmembers on Tuesday after their yacht capsized off the coast of the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, said a military spokesperson.

"Two search and rescue units responded to a distress call from the yacht Prinzessin Mony, which was capsizing north of the Giftun Islands," said Brigadier Mohammed Samir.

"There were 20 Russian and Czech tourists on board, as well as three Egyptian crewmembers," he explained, adding that the yacht was towed to the nearest marine terminal, where the passengers received medical attention.

Egypt has come under fire lately after security forces "mistakenly" targeted a four-vehicle tourist convoy while pursuing extremists in the country's Western Desert last week, killing 12 people and injuring 10 others.

On Thursday, Mexico's government demanded that Egypt compensate the tourists affected by the deadly incident that outraged many.
