The sculpture of Marilyn Monroe has been subject to widespread ridicule in Egypt [Twitter]

Egyptians have expressed their embarrassment at a sculpture of late Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe, which has been on show at Cairo's Opera House’s since the start of last week.

The sculpture was made by Egyptian sculptor and university professor Ehab Al-Asiouty, intending to imitate the 26 foot tall Forever Marilyn statue, which was completed by 2011 and has travelled the world since.

Al-Asiouty’s version did not live up to the standards of Egypt.

Despite him defending his work and claiming the ridicule came out of a campaign targeting him, people have been unable to stop making fun of the sculpture.
