Yemen's Houthi rebels said they have bombed a military base in Saudi Arabia, the latest in a series of drone attacks on the kingdom.

Yemen's Houthi rebels have said they have bombed a military base in Saudi Arabia, the latest in a series of increased drone attacks on the kingdom.

The Houthi military spokesman said that the drone attack targeted the King Khaled Air Base in the southwest Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.

He added that the drone attack hit a weapons depot, causing a large fire.

Saudi state media has not reported the attack as of yet.

Yemen's rebels - who have faced persistent bombing by a Saudi-led coalition that has exacted a heavy civilian death toll - have stepped up missile and drone attacks across the Saudi border in recent weeks.

At least one person has been killed and 56 wounded in Saudi Arabia in three such Houthi attacks since June 12.

Saudi Arabia has repeatedly accused Iran of supplying sophisticated weapons to the Houthis, a charge Tehran denies.
