In a new character reference, James Packer said Netanyahu saved his life after his breakup.
The ex-boyfriend of pop singer Mariah Carey said Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu saved his life after he went through a messy breakup.

Billionare James Packer, who dated and eventually got engaged to Carey between September 2015 to October 2016, thanked Netanyahu for helping him through the breakup.

Packer and Netanyahu were introduced to each other by mutual friend Arnon Milchan. When the pair split, Milchan called Netanyahu and asked him to get Packer through the breakup.

"I asked Bibi to pick up a phone and call Jimmy to save his life," Milchan said, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

"I and other people were worried; we thought that if we didn't act quickly, his life would be in danger. Bibi was the only one who managed to convince him to come to Israel. I think that saved his life."

Many suspect Milchan's words are a part of a range of celebrity character references in favour of Israel’s longest serving prime minister as he continues to be under investigation for corruption.

The revelation came out in Israeli media on Monday as a four-day hearing into Netanyahu's corruption allegations came to an end.
