Football's global governing body has slammed a politically-charged tweet by President Donald Trump regarding a US bid to host the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA brought to Trump's attention the body's ethics guidelines, which states that improper promotion or pressure during a World Cup bid process can damage the country's hopes of hosting the tournament.

"As a general rule, we cannot comment on specific statements in connection with the bidding process. We can only refer to the FIFA Regulations for the selection of the venue for the final competition of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and in particular to the Bid Rules of Conduct incorporated therein," FIFA said, according to Reuters.
Improper activities "may adversely affect the integrity of the Bidding Process and create an undue influence on the Bidding Process", the body added.
The statement comes after Trump made thinly veiled threats against countries that might oppose a combined bid by the US, Canada and Mexico to host the 2026 World Cup.
"The US has put together a STRONG bid with Canada and Mexico for the 2026 World Cup," Trump tweeted on Thursday.
"It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the US bid. Why should we be supporting these countries when they don't support us (including at the United Nations)?"
Morocco is the other challenger to host the 2026 bid and has the backing of many Arab and African countries.
Saudi Arabia faced criticism from Morocco when powerful General Sports Authority head Turki al-Sheikh appeared to back the US bid.
An announcement will be made in June on which country or countries will host the 2026 World Cup.
