Two civilians were killed and several others injured as a suspected Russian airstrike targeted a village in southern Idlib province on Tuesday morning.

A man and a woman were killed in the village of Nqeer, according to the Syrian Civil Defence rescue group, also known as the White Helmets, who responded to the bombing and treated the injured.

Rescue teams reported the planes - thought to belong to Russia - dropped four highly explosive missiles on the village.

The strike follows an explosion that rocked Idlib city on Monday, killing 19 people, according to the latest death toll from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It is still unknown who carried out the explosion.
