The Trump Organization is attempting to sue a Saudi royal for nearly $4 million, after the prince allegedly stopped paying rent at his Trump Park Avenue penthouse apartment in Manhattan, New York City.
President Donald Trump’s namesake company alleges Prince Faisal Bin Abdul Majeed Bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, the grandson of the kingdom's founding king Ibn Saud, has an unpaid rent bill of $1.8 million.
The organisation is seeking a further $1.9 million in future rent as Prince Faisal's lease is not due to end until June 2019.
According to the court documents, the prince began renting the penthouse in 2013, but stopped paying rent in January 2017 despite having extended the lease until 2019.
According to the lease, the royal was paying $115,762.50 per month to rent the apartment in the 35-story building in Manhattan's upscale Upper East Side.
King Faisal is listed online as the chairman of the Riyadh Cement Company and a member of the board of trustees of the Arab Thought Foundation, a non-profit organisation promoting Arab culture and values.
Since assuming office last year, US President Donald Trump has been forging close ties with the oil-rich Saudi kingdom.
The former business tycoon notably visited Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip as president, where he was famously pictured alongside the Saudi and Egyptian leaders gripping a strange light-up orb.
