More than 300 Turkish citizens have died from Islamic State-linked terror attacks in recent years.
Turkish police detained late on Friday 48 alleged Islamic State members suspected of plotting a terror attack, reported the state-run Anadolu news.

Police raided six addresses across three Istanbul districts, detaining 31 nationals, a police spokesman said.

Seventeen more were rounded up in raids across Ankara, the Turkish capital, Reuters reported.

Turkish authorities conducted a series of raids before New Year's Eve last year, arresting dozens of suspected Islamic State militants. The measures were aimed at preventing a repeat of the January 1 2017 nightclub shooting that left 39 dead.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Reina massacre.

Turkey joined a US-led coalition to fight against the Islamic State in September 2014.

Earlier today, Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul said that authorities have to date detained 1,354 Islamic State members in recent years.
