Ahmed Saleem, aged 24, was shot dead during clashes with Israeli armed forces in Jayyous near Qalqilya, close to the separation wall between Israel and the West Bank.
Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian demonstrator during clashes in the occupied West Bank on Monday, Palestinian officials said.

Ahmed Saleem, 24, was shot dead during unrest between Palestinian protesters and with Israeli troops in Jayyous near Qalqilya, close to the separation wall between Israel and the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli army said dozens of Palestinians had thrown rocks at Israeli soldiers.

"In response to the violence, soldiers responded with riot dispersal means and live rounds," it said in a statement, adding it was "looking into" reports of a Palestinian killed.

Saleem is the 17th Palestinian to be killed since US President Donald Trump's controversial announcement to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital on 6 December.

Last week two Palestinian teenagers were shot and killed by Israeli forces in separate incidents during a day of sustained clashes over Trump's Jerusalem declaration.

One Israeli, a settler from the hard-line outpost of Havat Gilad near Nablus, has also been killed since December.

The Israeli army imposed a strict security crackdown in the West Bank following the death of the settler last week in a drive-by shooting.

The restrictions - including roadblocks and checkpoints - sparked clashes with Palestinians. More than 176 Palestinians were injured during protests last weekend.
