Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi landed in Bahrain's capital Manama on Monday, where he was greeted at the country's airport by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, according to state television.

During the visit, which is the Egyptian leader's last stop on a tour of the Gulf, al-Sisi and King Hamad will discuss bilateral ties and developments in the wider region, a statement from Bahrain's royal court said.

"[Al-Sisi's] visit comes within the context of ongoing cooperation between the leadership of the two countries," Egyptian Ambassador to Bahrain Suha Ibrahim al-Far told Bahrain's state news agency.

According to al-Far, the two leaders will explore "means of strengthening their political and economic relations in the face of a host of common challenges".

He added that economic cooperation will also be discussed, particularly in light of Bahrain's 2030 economic plan.

Bahrain is the fourth and final stop of a tour that has seen al-Sisi travel to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates over the last fortnight.

Last month, al-Sisi met with King Hamad in Cairo, where the pair discussed the possibility of ending an ongoing rift between Cairo and Riyadh, government sources said at the time.

The meeting came ahead of this year's Arab League summit held in Jordan.
