The US launched another drone strike on suspected al-Qaeda militants in Yemen on Sunday morning, in al-Marib province.

Five suspected militants were killed in the US drone strike which a source told AFP said targeted a suspected al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula leader's car.

It follows another US raid which killed three suspected al-Qaeda operatives in southern Shabwa province, which has been a central target of the US.

Yakla town in Baida province was the target of the controversial 29 January special forces raid ordered by US President Donald Trump.

The US Navy SEAL raid left several civilians dead including a child with US citizenship.

Washington said it has launched 70 strikes against al-Qaeda and Islamic State grouo targets in Yemen since 28 February.

Al-Qaeda has taken advantage of war in Yemen to carve out its own territory in the country, with thousands killed and a famine threatening to grip the country.
