A British man sentenced to three months in prison for touching a man's hip in a Dubai bar has been exonerated and allowed to leave the UAE.

Jamie Harron was informed by telephone that all charges against him had been dismissed on Monday morning.

According to the CEO of Detained in Dubai, Harron's release was personally ordered by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

"We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for his personal intervention in this case, and for exonerating Jamie at long last," said Radha Stirling.

Harron has since successfully collected his passport from the Dubai police and is reportedly free to leave the country.

"It is expected that Jamie will initiate civil proceedings against his accusers, Emad Tabaza and the company he works for; Neuman & Esser," Stirling said.

"The allegations against him have been definitively proven false and slanderous and have caused him tremendous suffering and financial loss."

Harron, 27, was arrested five months ago while at a bar for being drunk and allegedly touching Jordanian businessman Emad Tabaza's hip.

Harron has already completed a 30-day custodial sentence for being found with alcohol in his system. It is legal to sell alcohol at licensed venues in the UAE, but it is illegal to be found drunk.

"During a private visit to a club in Dubai, one of our employees was touched by the suspect on the thigh several times," a statement from Neumann & Esser said.

According to witnesses, Tabaza allegedly told police at the time of arrest: "He's been drinking, and he touched me improperly, I will get you deported, do you know who I am?"

Harron denied the allegations and Tabaza later dropped all charges.
