Six suspected al-Qaeda militants were killed in a drone strike in southern Yemen on Thursday, as the air war against radical groups in the war-torn country intensifies.
The alleged US air strike targeted their vehicle in the Sumaa area of Abyan province, leaving the bodies of a 'militant leader' and 'two bodyguards' "incinerated".
It follows a drone strike on Sunday in Marib province, which killed five suspected militants.
The US has intensified drone strikes against suspected al-Qarda and Islamic State group targets in Yemen.
Militant groups have thrived in the power vacuum created by the war in Yemen, which has pitted Houthi rebels against the exiled government headed by President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
The war in Yemen has left at least 10,000 people dead with air strikes by a Saudi-led Arab coalition adding to the already considerable misery suffered by Yemenis.
A number of attacks on security personnel and civilians have been launched by militant groups, including a IS suicide bomb attack on a Shia mosque in 2015, which killed and injured scores of people.
