A German plane carrying nealry 300 passengers made an emergency landing in Kuwait on Sunday over a hoax bomb threat, authorities in the Gulf emirate said.

The aircraft operated by Eurowings - a low-cost carrier owned by Lufthansa - had been travelling from Salalah in the south of Oman to Cologne in Germany when the captain requested an emergency landing.

No explosives were found on the aircraft, a spokesman for the Gulf country's civil aviation authority told the official KUNA news agency.

Oman Air had denied one of its aircraft was diverted over a bomb threat following earlier reports that one of the national carrier's jets was involved in the incident.

"This is false news. It is not true. If there was any sort of danger on any of our flights our emergency response team would pick it up," an Oman Air spokesman told Times of Oman.

Airport security in Oman came under the spotlight earlier this month when a Dubai-bound flight from the sultanate was grounded after a snake was detected in the luggage hold.
