US soldier commits suicide at Kuwait military base

A US soldier on Thursday shot and killed himself at a US military base in Kuwait that he was stationed in, the interior ministry said.

The soldier allegedly used his own gun to kill himself while on duty, the ministry said in a statement posted to Twitter.

The Pentagon confirmed the soldier's death, which it said occurred in a "non-combat related incident".

It added that the the soldier was rushed to Adan hospital in southern Kuwait, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

An investigation has reportedly been launched into the soldier's death.

Several thousand American soldiers are stationed at Camp Arifjan, a military base about 70 km south of Kuwait City.
