Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Moscow next week for the third time in a year to continue promoting closer strategic and economic relations, officials said on Thursday.

Egypt and Russia have sought to boost ties since then army chief Sisi ousted the democratically elected president Mohamed Morsi in a July 2013 coup.

Sisi's three-day trip to Moscow - starting on Tuesday - reflects "a common will to strengthen and promote strategic relations between the two countries", said Sisi's office.

The two countries reportedly signed a $3.5 billion arms deal last year in addition to signing an agreement in February whereby Russia would build Egypt's first nuclear power plant.

The Kremlin, which announced that Sisi is to meet Putin on Wednesday, said their talks "will focus on strengthening bilateral relations, including boosting economic cooperation".

On Putin's visit to Egypt in February - his first in a decade - Egypt signed an agreement to import Russian natural gas and establish a free trade zone.

The Egyptian Central Bank has reported a 103 percent growth in Egytian-Russian trade in the last six months.
