Fadaat Media press release

The Board of Fadaat Media, of which al-Araby al-Jadeed is a subsidiary, has decided to issue the following statement after its meeting on October 1, 2015:

Following rumours in some newspapers regarding the possibility of cuts to the budget of al-Jazeera News Network, with some linking the reported cuts - either deliberately or inadvertedly - to possible investments in al-Araby al-Jadeed's newspaper or website or al-Araby TV, the board would like to state that:

1. The rumours are baseless.

2. Any budget cuts in the institutions of the state of Qatar are Qatari affairs that we do not interfere in. Any reported cuts to the al-Jazeera network or shifts in budget priorities are the sole responsibility of that network's management. Fadaat Media, the company investing in the al-Araby TV and al-Araby al-Jadeed companies in London, has nothing to do with the matter.

3. Fadaat Media is a private company that is not funded by the government of Qatar. It invests in media and is working to develop professional media outlets. It does not intend to expand its activities or increase its capital, neither at the present time nor in the foreseeable future.

Al-Araby al-Jadeed and al-Araby TV are not direct competitors of al-Jazeera, whether in terms of their work or of their target audience.

They do not claim or aspire to be an alternative to al-Jazeera's channels. The vision of Fadaat Media is not to compete with professional and respectable media outlets such as al-Jazeera - though doing so would be its right - but to complement these professional media institutions for the sake of a free, professional and credible Arab media.

We would like to stress in this regard that the workers and employees of Fadaat media, al-Araby TV and al-Araby al-Jadeed newspaper express solidarity with their colleagues in al-Jazeera and at other respectable and professional Arab and international media outlets, many of which are undergoing reductions a a result of economic conditions.
