Emotions ran high on Monday among Palestinian social media users as they remembered the 69th anniversary of the Nakba.

The Nakba is remembered every year as the day 700,000 Palestinains were expelled from their homes upon the creation of Israel.

The word nakba is directly translated as "catastrophe".

Young Palestinains took over social media on the day. A lot of them were diaspora Palestinians - some of whom having never visited Palestine in their lives.

Memories of their grandparents, and even great grandparents remained raw as they archived them in their string of their online history.

But among the sombre tweets were tweets of hope.

Dreams about about knafeh (traditional Palestinian delicacy), laughter and Palestine beyond an occupation.

And of people coming together.

But above all, learning and educating for the sake of love and peace.
