Millions across the world aided Egypt in their celebrations after the national football team qualified for the upcoming the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Egypt erupted in celebration on Sunday evening after its football team qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia - the first time since 1990.

Millions of Egyptians took to the streets chanting slogans and waving the country's flag, after a 2-1 win against Congo on Sunday.

The millions of Egyptians living overseas and unable to join  the celebrations back home shared their sentiments on social media.

Egypt is the second Arab country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup after Saudi Arabia's historic win against Japan in September.

Egypt is the most successful African football nation having won the Africa Cup of Nations seven times.

It was also the first Middle Eastern and African club to qualify for the World Cup back in 1934.

Both times Egypt entered the competition - in 1934 and 1990 - they failed to win a game.

But with some of its star players competing in European top flight football it's hoped "the Pharaohs" will make the 2008 Russia World Cup a historic one for the country.
