A conservative US author who said she was shocked by the 'complete Islamification' of Britain's capital city, received hundreds of tweets by Londoners mocking the 'xenophobic' comments on Sunday.

Mrs Johnson tweeted saying: "My friends just returned from London. Shocked. Hadn't been in 20 years. Said London is gone - all Islamic."

In subsequent tweets, and after receiving some backlash, she clarified that the friends she referred to "are informed people. They were trying to impress upon us how horrible it is. They travel a lot", while a later tweet claimed that the British have "let their culture be erased."

As expected, the comments went viral, being retweeted by more than 2,000 users, and catching the attention of many Londoners who decided to respond to the 'xenophobic' tweets in true British wit.

And while a 2011 census shows Britain is home to some 2.7 million Muslims - just 4.8 percent of the entire British population - it's safe to say mockery is the most apt response to such comments.

The government statistics show that just 12.4 percent of London's population is Muslim, including its recently-appointed Mayor Sadiq Khan - but let's not scare Johnson with that information.
