Half-Palestinian supermodel Gigi Hadid on Wednesday slammed an Islamophobic Twitter user who criticised two Muslim women for wearing hijabs in New York a day after a deadly attack in the city.

Laura Loomer, who describes herself in her bio as an alt-right activist and journalist, tweeted a photo of two women wearing hijabs in Manhattan near the site of an attack which killed at least eight people and injured at least 12 others on Tuesday.

"Muslims are out in full force at the scene of the NYC #ISIS attack today rubbing it in everyone's face. Aimlessly walking around in hijabs," Loomer tweeted.

"You'd think they'd have the decency to not walk around in hijabs @ cross street of the attack", she continued. "But they don't. I bet they're loving this".

Hadid immediately called out the bigoted tweet.

"Laura, I hate to give you the attention, but I need to tell you- You're a f**king moron", she wrote.

The 22-year-old model, whose father is Palestinian-American, has been vocal in the past about issues of social justice and is open about the pride she has in her Palestinian heritage.

Her boyfriend, singer Zayn Malik, is of British-Pakistani heritage.

Earlier this year, Hadid graced the first cover of Vogue Arabia's print editions wearing an Islamic head-covering.
