A Palestinian was shot and killed by Israeli forces on Thursday in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron after an alleged stab attempt.

Israeli security forces say they thwarted a "stabbing attempt" at the Beit Einun junction northeast of Hebron.

The man was identified by his father and named as 20-year-old Muayyad Awni Jabbarin. He arrived at the scene following his death, Maan news agency reported.

The shooting comes only a day after Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man and wounded three more people on a beach in Beit Lehya, northern Gaza, close to the Israeli border.

Israel and the Palestinian territories have witnessed a wave of violence in recent months.

At least 151 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since October.

Israel has also come under criticism from rights groups for retaining the bodies of Palestinians.

In November, the Palestinian Authority's United Nations representative accused Israel of returning bodies of killed Palestinians with 'missing organs', a claim which was then labelled as "blood libel" by Israel.
