An Egyptian court has delayed issuing a ruling today for the second time on allegations that Qatar and Turkey support and fund terrorism.

The ruling is now due at the court's next sitting on 6 September.

The Court for Urgent Matters in Cairo has been considering allegations brought by Egyptian lawyer Samir Sabri that the two states incited violence in Egypt and funded terrorist groups in Egypt's Sinai peninsula.

Politicised justice?

The court has issued a series of what has been regarded as highly politicized rulings under the rule of President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi against his government's opponents, including supporters of the previous government linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and abroad. Both Qatar and Turkey are regarded as supporters of the international Muslim Brotherhood movement.

Sabri has brought a number of cases to the court against opponents of the regime.
The Court or Urgent Matters was established to issue injunctions in matters on which the regular court system would take too long to issue a more considered ruling. The injunctions it issues are regarded as temporary measures.

Sabri has brought a number of cases to the court against opponents of the regime.

He recently stirred some controversy when he reportedly said on the programme Sabah al-Assema on the Egyptian satellite channel al-Assema last month that death was not a bad enough punishment for Brotherhood members sentenced to death in Egypt, and that he personally did not believe in human rights or human rights organisations.

The charges Sabri has brought to the court against Turkey allege it has embraced the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood, and that a number of channels broadcast from Turkey have incited people to kill Egyptian police and army officers and burn state institutions.

He also alleged the Turkish leader is known to be hostile to Egypt and a funder of terrorist groups in Sinai that have carried out operations against the army and the police with the intention of overthrowing the state.

He also stated in his allegations that Turkey supported elements of the Brotherhood that tried to overthrow the Egyptian state and sabotage Egypt's development.

The charges Sabri brought against Qatar allege it is connected with the attacks against the Egyptian police and armed forces in Arish in the northern Sinai, and has incited violence and demonstrations against the regime.
