The release of a video on Thursday about the internal Israeli security investigation into the Zikkim operation has reportedly stunned the Israeli army.

The footage contains briefing slides and secret footage about the operation which took place during Israel's last aggression on Gaza in July and August 2014.

During the operation, members of an Islamist faction attacked the Israeli army's Ashkelon Zikkim military base near Gaza.

An internal military investigation into the leak is likely, an Israeli army spokesman told the Maariv newspaper.

The Israeli army has previously released videos it recorded of the event using surveillance cameras, but the latest video contains secret footage not previously released. It shows a battle between an Israeli tank crew and Palestinian fighters. In the footage, a Palestinian attaches a bomb to the tank and runs away before the bomb explodes.

Footage of Israel's investigation into the Zikkim Operation has been leaked.
"The video recording and the highly confidential investigation slides show the outcome of a military investigation into the above-mentioned landing operation, the names of different types of secret weapons, and the combat methods used by Israel during the aggression," reported Maariv.

The Qassam Brigades, Hamas' military arm, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The footage may be embarrassing for Israeli military leaders, as it highlights the capacity of armed Palestinian groups.
